Killed in aircraft accident, in Atlas Oryk #1215, at Kroonstad.
Ten people died and 14 were injured in the crash outside Kroonstad.
Members of the SA Army, the Kroonstad area commandos, SAP and the
SAAF were busy with a crime prevention exercise, Operation Tsoha II,
based at a temporary base at Bossiespruit. This flight was one of
the short flights that took support personnel on a "thank you" flight.
This flight was the third one the Oryx had done that day. The wreckage
was found along the Vals River. |

been hit by anti-aircraft fire and was baling out at an altitude of
1000 feet. His aircraft's canopy was seen to fly off and a brown object,
probably the pilot, was seen to fall from the crippled aircraft. No
parachute was seen though, and it would appear that Lt Frisby's parachute
failed to open. His pilotless aircraft, turning to the left, continued
to lose height until it struck flat ground near a river and was destroyed.
An intensive search by two members of the flight failed to find him,
and a search conducted by four aircraft later that day also failed
to find any sign of him. |
Son of Mrs. N. M. Frisby, husband of Mrs. Thelma Mavis (born Engelbrecht
on 19 January 1926 and married on 4 December 1948) and father of Wenda
Jennifer (born 4 November 1949) and Dawn Patricia (born 6 December
1950). ref. 85 years of SAAF |
