Served as Lance Corporal (#23243) with the 28th Company, 4th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry in the ABW 1899-1902. Attested with Natal Police 3 March 1903. Stationed HQ Pretoria. Seconded to SA Defence Force 21 September 1914. Second in Command (Major) 21st Bn. Manchester Regiment. Commemorated on St. Saviour's Anglican Cathedral, Pietermaritzburg WWI Memorial scroll in St. Peter's Presbyterian Church, Pietermaritzburg & on WWI Memorial in the grounds of St. John the Baptist Church, Windsor, Berkshire, England. ref.
