Died in hospital in Egypt, awaiting repatriation. He was reported missing in June 1942 and later confirmed as a POW. He was released in Italy in September 1943 and returned to Egypt where he was hospitalized in October 1943. He was classified as "D" for return to South Africa in January 1944 but died before this could happen
