Killed in action, Wellington HX600 took off from RAF Luqa at 1830Z hours on 7 February 1943 to illuminate a convoy 60 miles east of Sardinia. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it did not return to base. One body was washed ashore on the south coast of Sardinia, and is buried in the British Military cemetery, at Cagliari, Sardinia. It was later recorded that the remaining missing crew members had lost their lives at sea |
