Cause of Death:
 Died in Freak Accident, fell out of a landed Caravan aircraft and broke his neck. He died shortly after the accident on the runway in Alldays, Limpopo. He was part of a 4-man crew of 41 Squadron (AFB Waterkloof) that was on a night flying training flight.

Husband of Ilse Jerling, a Lt.Col. at SAAF HQ, and father of three children: Christo (12), Desire (9) and Jacques (2). His funeral was at the NGK Lyttelton-Noord in Monument Ave, Centurion.
