Killed in action, in Sangin, Helmand Province, he and other soldiers were sleeping out in the open because of not enough bunkers, and he came off sentry duty and was sitting where he slept and was eating when he was hit by shrapnel from a mortar.

Left South African when he was 14 years old and finished his schooling at the Grammar School in Corsham he also attended the Catholic school in Slough for a year before moving to Corsham
