Courtesy of Hugh Termorshuizen; "The accounts of Muller's death are varied. Herman Kitshoff is probably in the best position (or Potgieter, Muller's gunner) to give the most accurate account. But, as I have it, on 27th June 1988, Looms, Meiring and Kitshoff were the pelbevs parked just off a shona, some 10 clicks south of Techipa, at around 10H00, awaiting feedback from 32 Bn concerning enemy movements. But the 32 Bn radios failed, and the cloud of dust seen coming from the North were considered forward SA elements moving back. Suddenly, all hell broke loose. I don't know that it was an RPG. I was under the impression that it was a tank shell that hit his turret. Kitshoff, who was behind him, noticed that Muller's Ratel was reversing erratically, and called to him on the radio, asking him to get out of his line of fire. It was then that he was told that Muller was KIA. He jumped out of his Ratel, and made his way forward to find a body-bag...did so, and placed his corpse in another Ratel." |
