Son of Mrs. M. L. Hewetson, of Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. He was born at Duns, Berwick, on February 21st, 1921, and entered Lloyd House in September 1935. He matriculated in December, 1938, and then entered the Public Works Department, Salisbury, attesting in the Royal Air Force in November 1940. He received preliminary training in Southern Rhodesia and the Union before proceeding overseas in August 1941. On Plumtree School Roll of Honour
