 Killed in action, Stirling EF428, crashed at Kleinbroich, east of Monchengladbach, during Operation Remscheid. 273 aircraft, 15 losses (5.5%). Previously not bombed. This raid marked the end of the battle of the Ruhr. Oboe ground marking was used and the main force bombed particularly accurately. A post war British survey estimated that 83% of the city was destroyed by just 871 tons of bombs. Most of the town's industry lost 3 months of production and never regained its fully capacity. 3115 homes were destroyed and 1120 people killed. Thought to be the first SAAF loss with Bomber Command. He is thought to have been flying as a passenger on this raid

Son of Arthur Norman and Aileen Delabere Ingle, of Seven Oaks, Natal. Husband of Irene Faith Ingle, of Sea Point, Cape Province, South Africa. Born Durban. A brush manufacturer. Operational in Ethiopia with 12 Squadron (SAAF), flying Junkers JU86 bombers against the Italians; captured by the Vichy French when his plane crash-landed in French Somaliland, but managed to escape; posted to 15 Squadron SAAF at Mildenhall, Suffolk, England. Commemorated on Greytown, KZN WWII Memorial
