Cause of Death:
Killed in action, Wellington Ic R1726 which departed RAF Marham at 11.26 on an operation to attack the German warship Gneisnau at Brest. The operation record book states: 6 aircraft from the squadron were detailed for a daylight attack on the GNEISNAU at BREST. Together with 3 aircraft from 115 Squadron, the aircraft left MARHAM in 3 sections of 3 and a very successful attack in formation was made. Intense anti-aircraft fire was encountered and several attacks were made by M.E.109’s. Most aircraft were hit but all returned safely with the exception of P/O. Jolly whose aircraft was not seen after the attack. Wellington R1726 crashed into the sea at Brest killing four crew and two crew becoming prisoners of war.
