Son of Henry and Margaret Pearce; husband of Ina Pearce, of 77A, Nightingale Lane, Balham, London. Born Hurstpierpoint, Sussex June 1886; resided in Rhodesia prior to the outbreak of the Great War; served as a Corporal in the Northern Rhodesian Rifles, from 10.12.1914; discharged 30.4.1915 to return to the United Kingdom to take a commission in the Royal Engineers; served on the Western Front with the 171st Tunnelling Company, wounded 25.4.1917; the 171st Tunnelling Company were involved in the laying of 24 mines as part of the battle of Messine, from June 1917
