Son of Thomas G.and Cora W. Popham. Brother of Blanche Royston, of Culpepper Court House, Culpepper Co., Virginia, U.S.A. Resided at Franklin's Building, West Street, Durban. Born Memphis, Tennessee, United States of America. A barman. Served as Trooper (#667) with Bethune's Mounted Infantry in the ABW 1899-1902; transferred to the Transvaal Constabulary; served with the Natal Police in the Bambatha Rebellion of 1906. WIA at Mersa Matruh 23/1/1916. The first Memphian to die in the Great War
