Served as a Private (#23793) in the Cape Colony Cyclist Corps in the ABW 1901-1902. Served with the DLI in the Bambatha Rebellion in 1906 & in GSWA 1914-1915. Served with the 6th Regiment in East Africa; evacuated to #2 General Hospital, Maitland ? malaria 27/12/1916; discharged Wynberg 5/4/1917
