Son of Jacob de Villiers Church, of "Windsor House", 209 Albert Street, Woodstock. Born Cape Town. A messenger. Attested for the 1st South African Infantry on 24 July 1917. He embarked from Southampton to Rouen on 14 February 1918 and joined "A" Company in the trenches to the north-west of Peronne.
