Killed in action, Stirling I W7501, shot down by night fighter pilot Oblt Ludwig Becker of the 6./NJG 2, flying a Do 215 B-5 or Bf 110 from Leeuwarden airfield on operational flight over Lubeck, Germany. Target was the Altstadt which comprised mainly timbered houses, so half of the 400 tons of bombs were incendiary devices. 62% of all dwelling in Lubeck were either destroyed or badly damaged - mainly residential. Believed crashed into the North Sea off the Frisian Islands
