Cause of Death:
Killed in action. The Battery was at Colincamp since the 7th October 1916 in a position really untenable for a heavy battery, without cover and a favourite target for the German artillery. On the 20th November, the enemy kept up a severe bombardment all day, and four gunners were killed (the three men buried at Courcelles and Bombardier Frank Birt buried in Couin British Cemetery).
