Son of Thomas and Mrs. E. Heathcote, of Grahamstown, Cape Province. Born in Grahamstown. A grocer by trade, he enlisted at Potchefstroom for overseas service on 2 September 1915, having previously served in the 1st Kimberley Regiment in the South West African Campaign. Serving in France with the 1st South African Infantry.
