Cause of Death:
Killed in action, during an enemy counter attack on the houses at Torlai. After the platoons were withdrawn from the area, they could still hear the Bren gun firing and grenade explosions. These ceased at about 0500 on the morning of the 5th October. Daylight revealed Pte. Joseph’s body next to his Bren as it was he that had been firing to the end
