Cause of Death:
Killed in action, at Messines Ridge. According to a report by his friend Private G. Watson, they were occupying a post on the front line when the Germans attacked. They were ordered to retreat behind a machine gun post and while moving back, McCreight was hit by a bullet and shouted "Goodbye Watson, I'm done for". Watson held his hand as he collapsed and died. Watson suspected he had been shot through the heart as there was no blood on his face or clothing
