Cause of Death:
Killed in action, Hampden I P1228, taking off at 16:20 hrs from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire to join 180 others to bomb Hamburg. Weather conditions were described as a three quarter full moon with excellent visibility. 13 aircraft were lost on this operation - 7 were claimed by flak units. It is thought that P1228 was one of those hit by 2.-5.M Flak unit with the aircraft coming down in the Wadden Sea North of Cuxhaven at 21:49 hrs.
