LG Sup 21 October 1918 - "On night 23 / 24 June, during the attack and capture of the enemy position S. W. of Meteren, Corporal Codd located an enemy M.G. enfilading our line. He failed to silence it, and reported to an officer. The officer in question, with Corporal Codd and Private Patience then crawled behind the gun. They rushed the enemy group, killed one, wounded two, and captured seven Germans and the gun. This dashing gallantry was most inspiring to all ranks of the two platoons who had been enfiladed. The capture of the gun team saved many casualties in our ranks, and enabled the line to move forward to the final objective, when it was held up by the enemy fire from the M.G. and group of Germans." |
