Son of Harold and Bessie V. Booth, of Somerset West, Cape Province, South Africa. Entered Grey House in January 1934. He left Plumtree in December 1935, to complete his education in England. He joined the Northern Rhodesia Regiment soon after the outbreak of war, and saw service in East Africa before going to Burma. On Plumtree School Roll of Honour.
