Son of Philip Methley and Myrtle Matilda Symons, of 287 Francois Road, Glenwood, Durban, Natal, South Africa. Born Howick, Natal. Educated at Dundee Intermediate School. In 1931 he joined South African Training Ship General Botha as AB, but in 1933 he left the sea to take up farming. At the outbreak of WW2 he joined the SANF and was serving in HMS Gloucester when she was sunk off Crete. Ex-Cadet of the South African Training Ship General Botha. Commemorated on the Dundee & District WWII Memorial & on the SA WWII Naval Memorial in Simonstown, Western Cape
