Son of Harry John and Eva Elizabeth White, of Marandellas, Southern Rhodesia. Entered Milner House in January 1933. He obtained his School Leaving Certificate in 1936 and then entered the clerical side of the Rhodesia Railways. He was called up for service in August 1939, and proceeded to East Africa in November of that year. School Record : Cricket 1st XI, 1934; Under 15 Rugby team; Dramatics, in chorus of "Patience" 1933, and "H.M.S. Pinafore" 1934. On Plumtree School Roll of Honour
