Killed in action, left Malta for a patrol in the Mediterranean in November 1942. On the 23rd she sank an enemy ship, but on 25 November 1942, during her return journey to Malta, she was located, attacked and sunk south west off Sicily by depth charges from the Italian torpedo boat Groppo |

Son of Hudson Edward and Pauline Ellen Wood. Born Blantyre, Nyasaland. Educated at Durban High School. Cadet Draft 1934 - 35 (Chief Cadet Captain). On leaving General Botha, John Claude Hudson Wood became apprenticed to the Prince Line and passed for Second Mate in 1939. In 1941 he joined the RNR and was lost in the submarine HMS Utmost which was sunk by the Italian torpedo boat TB Groppo off Marittimo on 25th November 1942.
