LG Sup 19 March 1942 pg. 1262 - "For conspicuous bravery and good leadership at Salum on 11 and 12 January 1942. His platoon came under very effective enfilade fire from an enemy position on left flank. Quickly and with great resolution he crossed a wide open space and was then able to get near enough to shoot a machine gunner with his pistol. Closing in he threw a hand grenade into an occupied and well protected house, resulting in the surrender of one Officer and 17 men. This cleared the way for a further advance. The whole occurence took place under heavy enemy fire." |
