Killed in action, in attack of second battle of Alamein. Clearing dug-outs and enemy posts with Bren guns, grenades and bayonets, by 11h30 pm the NMR was consolidating on its objective under heavy artillery fire. Lt. M. FRANK and his runner, Pte. P.D.G. SMITH were killed by a single shell.

His brother also died in service
