Son of the Rev. John Leith Smeathman Hatton and Edith Martha Nek Hatton, of West Barkwith Rectory, Wragby, Lincs. Born West Barkwith, Lincolnshire, England. Served for 4 years in the British South African Police Force in Rhodesia. He then joined the British South Africa Civil Service. His brother E A H Hatton also died in service. On Bottesford War Memorial. ref. South African Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
