Son of Stephen Colenso Beckerleg and Mary Beckerleg, of "Glencoe," Pednolver Terrace, St. Ives, Cornwall. Born Pietermaritzburg, Natal. Educated (Durban High School & Maritzburg College & Pietermaritzburg College. Student at Camborne (Cornwall) School of Mines. Volunteered in 1914. Second Lieutenants on probation dated 4th November, 1914. Second Lieutenant to be Lieutenant dated 22nd September, 1915. On Maritzburg College cenotaph.
