From RHS - Martin, James - Case 39242 - On the 3rd June 1912, George Collin fell overboard from a fishing boat some 12 miles off Burnmouth, there being a heavy sea running at the time. Martin jumped after him, and, having caught him, they were got on board after being twenty minutes in the water.
Son of James Martin, of Gallatown, Scotland. Husband of Eva Pretoria Martin. Born Gallatown, Scotland. Acaretaker of landbank. Served in Nile Expedition (1885), Chitral Campaign (1895), Gold Coast Expedition (1896 8), and the South African Campaign. Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Awarded the Royal Humane Society's Medal.
