Son of H. A. de Beer. From South Africa. Educated St. Andrew's College Grahamstown. Left December 1914 Upper Form IV. J.C. '14; in 1914 when he was fourteen, he left to continue his education in Rhodesia. Though under age he joined the Graham White Flying School and in 6 weeks got his flying ticket on 18 June 1916. On 25th June 1916, the same day as he was gazetted to the Royal Naval Air Service he was killed in an accident in London (another source says a motor accident).
