From RHS - Martin, James - Case 39242 - On the 3rd June 1912, George Collin fell overboard from a fishing boat some 12 miles off Burnmouth, there being a heavy sea running at the time. Martin jumped after him, and, having caught him, they were got on board after being twenty minutes in the water.

Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Son of James Martin, of Gallatown, Scotland. Served in Nile Expedition (1885), Chitral Campaign (1895), Gold Coast Expedition (1896 8), and the South African Campaign. Awarded the Royal Humane Society's Medal.
